Moves
was originally published by SPI beginning in 1972. SPI had
taken over
Strategy & Tactics three years earlier. S&T
developed into a military history magazine featuring a new
game in each issue, and so Moves focused on gameplay,
with articles on strategy, variants, errata, and game
design.
Changing trends
in game play led to the decline of SPI and the magazine in the
early 1980s. It was acquired by TSR, along with the rest of
SPI's assets, when SPI ran into financial difficulties. The
final issue (#60) of the original run was published in
December of 1981.
A second run of
issues began publication in 1991 with issue #61, when Decision
Games (Cummins Enterprises) ceased publication of The
Wargamer in favor of restarting the well-known Moves
title. It was published, along with Fire & Movement and
Strategy & Tactics by
Decision Games,
into the 21st Century.
The new trio of
magazines were described in a full page ad in the premiere
(Issue #61) of the revived Moves: |
