Battles
Magazine launched in April 2009 as a "professional and
independent" magazine offering reviews, analysis, regular
columns, general and historical articles, scenarios, player
aids ... and much more" for a wide range of games, including
original designs published with their issues.1
Content on tactical subjects has been minimal though a a
small number of ASL and ASLSK scenarios were published in
the early issues.
The magazine,
promised quarterly, is produced by an amateur staff who has been
unable to keep a regular shipping schedule. Actual production
has averaged well below four issues a year. In 2013 a single
issue was produced, and none in 2014. The
complete production run during the promised "quarterly
subscription" period was 9 of an expected 23 issues, broken
down as follows:
| 2009 |
2 issues |
| 2010 |
3
issues |
| 2011 |
2
issues |
| 2012 |
1

| 2013 |

| 2014 |
no

In December
2014 Battles announced that it would no longer offer
subscriptions and that there would be no further attempt to adhere
to a regular schedule.
While
some magazines such as
Special Ops
failed to produce issues in 2021 (no doubt due to COVID)
they have since resumed publishing where it appears
Battles has not.
In December 2021 the magazine's entry at
boardgamegeek.com was amended to indicate the magazine was
apparently on hiatus.2
