By August of 1942, the introduction of new types
of camouflage clothing that did not display rank by means of shoulder straps or collar
patches prompted the institution of specially designed camouflage rank badges. These
badges were of lightweight material, and by regulation were to appear on the left arm of
those garments that did not display rank in the usual manner; this list of uniforms
included:
Winter Uniform
Snow Uniform
Snow shirt
Wind Blouse
Animal skin uniforms
Denim overalls for AFV crews
Tropical shirts
Denim Jackets
Training Uniforms
Work Uniforms
The insignia was
generally 10 cm wide, with NCO's and Officer's badges being in thin cotton, and General's
badges usually embroidered in wool.
